چکیده

ABSTRACT We present high-resolution (synthesized beam size 0${_{.}^{\prime\prime}}$088 × 0${_{.}^{\prime\prime}}$083 or 25 23 pc2) Atacama Large Millimetre/submillimetre Array 12CO(2–1) line and 236 GHz continuum observations, as well 5 enhanced Multi-Element Radio Linked Interferometer Network (e-MERLIN) of NGC 0708; the brightest galaxy in low-mass cluster Abell 262. The observations reveal a turbulent, rotating disc molecular gas core galaxy, high-velocity, blueshifted feature ?0${_{.}^{\prime\prime}}$4 (?113 pc) from its centre. submillimetre emission peaks at nucleus, but extends towards this anomalous CO feature. No corresponding elongation is found on same spatial scales with e-MERLIN. discuss potential causes for detected source, conclude that it most likely to be in-falling filament material condensing hot intracluster medium via chaotic cold accretion, also possible jet-driven outflow. estimate physical properties structure has these two scenarios, show either explanation viable. suggest future integral field spectrographs will able determine true cause emission, provide further evidence interaction between quenched cooling flows mechanical feedback both small large source.

Brightest Cluster Galaxy Formation in Low - Redshift Galaxy Clusters

We present the composite luminosity function of a sample of 17 low-redshift galaxy clusters. Our luminosity functions have been measured for an inner region (r ≤ r 200) and an outer region (r 200 ≤ r ≤ 2r 200) centred on each Brightest Cluster Galaxy. The inner region luminosity function has a significantly flatter faint-end slope (α inner = −1.81 ± 0.02) than the outer region (α outer = −2.07 ...

The XMM Cluster Survey: the interplay between the brightest cluster galaxy and the intracluster medium via AGN feedback

Using a sample of 123 X-ray clusters and groups drawn from the XMM Cluster Survey first data release, we investigate the interplay between the brightest cluster galaxy (BCG), its black hole and the intracluster/group medium (ICM). It appears that for groups and clusters with a BCG likely to host significant active galactic nuclei (AGN) feedback, gas cooling dominates in those with TX > 2 keV wh...

M ar 1 99 6 Brightest Cluster Galaxy Profile Shapes

We model the surface brightness profiles of a sample of 119 Abell Brightest Cluster Galaxies (BCG), finding a generalised deVaucouleurs R law, where n is a free parameter, to be appropriate. Departures from the R law are shown to be a real feature of galaxy profiles, not due to observational errors or coupling of n with the other model parameters. BCG typically have values of n greater than 4. ...

A Galaxy Cluster near Ngc 720

The galaxy cluster RXJ 0152.7-1357 is emitting X-rays at the high rate of 148 counts ks −1. It would be one of the most luminous X-ray clusters known if it is at its redshift distance of z = .8325. It is conspicuously elongated, however, toward the bright, X-ray active galaxy NGC 720 about 14 arcmin away. At the same distance on the other side of NGC 720, and almost perfectly aligned, is an X-r...

Revisiting Brightest Cluster Galaxy Evolution with the Las Campanas Distant Cluster Survey

We investigate the influence of environment on brightest cluster galaxy (BCG) evolution using a sample of 63 clusters at 0.3 ≤ z ≤ 0.9 drawn primarily from the Las Campanas Distant Cluster Survey and follow-up V , I, and K ′ photometry. The luminosity evolution of the entire BCG sample is not adequately described by a single evolutionary model. Using the integrated light from the cluster detect...
